Does This Sound Familiar?

You need to focus on one task, maybe write a paper or study for a test, but five other topics flood your mind at once, leaving you distracted and frustrated.

Before you know it, a huge chunk of time has passed and you haven’t gotten anything done. All you’re left with is feeling disappointed in yourself for wasting time and piling on your to-do list once again.

Or maybe you’re always in motion, unwillingly. You have extreme difficulty sitting still to carry out a plan, one you struggled to even get organized enough to make, and can’t resist the urge to impulsively leave your home and grab something to eat in this exact moment. Now you’ll be late turning in your assignment for the hundredth time during college. And your roommate is already angry that you never completed cleaning the dishes out of the sink, another job started and too tedious to finish.

If this feels familiar, then you may have Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Some people are diagnosed with ADHD as kids, but some either don’t know they have it, don’t get the proper care, or are able to use their intelligence to get through school…until adulthood when it seems like life obligations are crashing down on your shoulders. ADHD can affect your school success, self-esteem, relationships, and work productivity but it doesn’t always have to be this way.

What is ADHD?

Some common symptoms for ADHD include:

  • Inattention and difficulty sustaining attention
  • Making many careless mistakes or missing details
  • Failing to finish tasks, such as homework or household tasks
  • Difficulty organizing and prioritizing
  • Losing items often, such as keys
  • Avoiding engaging in boring or uninteresting tasks
  • Forgetfulness
  • Fidgeting
  • Always extremely active or restless
  • Talking excessively
  • Difficulty waiting your turn
  • Interrupting others often
  • Poor time management
  • Impulsiveness

How ADHD Therapy Can Help

I’ve worked with clients who have ADHD for my whole career, starting 24 years ago with children and adolescents and for 10 years in a college counseling center helping adults with ADHD. Now I’m a ADHD-Certified Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP) as well! Assisting people who have ADHD soon became a passion for me, as I have many loved ones in my life who are severely affected. I know first-hand the struggle and how it can affect someone’s life. We’ll sort through the areas that affect your life in a variety of ways:

  • Behavioral strategies (working on what you can do differently in your life to change concentration, organization, time management, motivation, and more)
  • Creative strategies (using music to help you achieve success with the above areas as well as self-esteem and relationships due to effects of ADHD)
  • Exploring thinking processes and whether you’re able to have healthier, more productive thinking patterns, leading to changes you desire (sometimes other concerns make ADHD even more complex, such as anxiety or depression)
  • Referral for ADHD testing and/or medicine if requested and needed (medicine referral is always a last resort for me, but sometimes we all need a little more assistance and that’s okay!)

Every session is unique to my client, so that means you! There are no cookie-cutter methods and all are research-based to help you be more structured, organized, and focused.
