Does This Sound Familiar?

Your stomach feels like it’s always in a knot. Maybe when you have to talk to a stranger or when you need to take a test (or even study for a test).

Or maybe you feel like a wave keeps crashing over you, debilitating you from living your normal life. It may be hard to leave your home, to get ready in the morning without staying in your rigid routine, or to eat or sleep. Sometimes school is affected as well as your relationships.

We all feel stress at one point or another, but when your life functioning is affected and you have multiple symptoms in this area, you may be dealing with anxiety.

What is Anxiety?

Here’s some common anxiety symptoms:

  • A nagging sense of nervousness or a sharp and intense worry, tension, or feeling of doom
  • Difficulty controlling the worry
  • Difficulty concentrating or changing disruptive thoughts
  • Physical discomfort such as a racing heart, shallow or rapid breathing , sweating, shaking, and stomach issues
  • Eating changes (increased or decreased appetite, nausea)
  • Sleeping difficulty (trouble going or staying asleep)
  • Fatigue
  • Restlessness
  • Irritability and feeling angry
  • Having an urge to avoid situations or people

Don’t Worry, There’s Good News

You don’t have to deal with these anxiety symptoms alone anymore. You don’t have to resort to coping in unhelpful ways, such as ignoring circumstances or people, staying under a blanket and mindlessly scrolling social media, or trying to push through panic.

I want to help you to loosen that knot and ride the wave to feeling more in control and calm. Learning your personal signs of anxiety as well as how to manage anxiety sometimes takes working with a mental health professional, so let’s meet and get you to a place you want to be, a place where worry doesn’t rule your day.

How Anxiety Therapy Can Help

I specialize in anxiety therapy and have worked with young adults in Florida for my entire 24 year career, with 10 years in a university counseling center. You and I can explore your unique situation and needs, working together for how you want your life to look. This may include:

  • Stress and anxiety management coping skills (think relaxation strategies such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, mindfulness, and imagery)
  • Thought recognition and challenging (find out what types of unhealthy thinking patterns you find yourself trapped in and how to argue against that thinking)
  • Creative methods (maybe using art and music when you don’t have the words to express your concerns could be helpful, or you need to work through an invisible, though prominent barrier, keeping you from being your best self)
